The Endtimes Apostasy

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first 2 Thess 2:3

Apostasy - a defection, revolt - according to some Greek Lexicons.

We have in the last 60 or so years watched and perhaps taken part in the corporatization of a local body of believers. Could this move represent the apostasy written about by Paul when speaking of the last days?

This process of seeking recognition by the government as a not-for-profit (501-C3) corporation grants these new corporations the right to to offer tax receipts to those donating to their "ministry." It also alleges to provide a measure of protection (questionable) to the individuals from law suits.

The cost of incorporating, however, is that autonomy is sacrificed for mammon. That local body has given themselves to be in subjection to secular government where before they were under the Lordship of Jesus the Messiah.

Defection? Revolt? Falling away?

We are deceived if we believe that incorporating is merely a paperwork process and carrying no spiritual significance.

If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. (Num 30:2 NAU)

Signing a contract is a vow, an oath, that is binding and obligatory.

Do we really believe that the return to us from giving is higher from a secular government than that which we would receive from the Lord?

Could this trend to incorporate be the apostasy that heralds the endtimes tribulation?

"...you are slaves of the one whom you obey" (Rom 6:16 NAU)
